TNB Geng Bijak Tenaga 2026 encourages households to manage electricity use at 600kWh or below. See how choosing the right appliances can help.

On 3 September 2026, PETRA announced the Geng Bijak Tenaga Campaign together with TNB, encouraging Malaysian households to better understand their electricity consumption and manage energy more efficiently.

One of the campaign's key targets is for eligible TNB domestic users to maintain electricity consumption at 600kWh or below during October and November 2026.

A total of 2,000 eligible participants stand a chance to receive an RM100 Touch ’n Go Reload PIN, with RM200,000 in total incentives. Registration is scheduled to begin on 10 September 2026.

600kWh a Month — How Much Does Your Home Use?

Most of us only think about electricity consumption when the bill arrives.

But look around your home.

There may be an air conditioner, refrigerator, TV, washing machine, dryer, water heater, fans and other appliances running every day.

Individually, they may not seem like much.

Together, however, they contribute to your household's monthly electricity consumption.

That's also why two families of similar size can have very different electricity usage.

Should You Check Your Older Appliances?

A higher electricity bill doesn't automatically mean you should replace everything.

But if an appliance has been running for many years, it may be worth checking whether it still suits your household.

Is your air conditioner taking longer to cool the room?

Is your refrigerator getting old?

Is your washing machine too small, forcing you to run several loads?

Are you using the dryer more often than before?

Sometimes the issue isn't simply how much electricity you use. Your household needs may have changed while your appliances haven't.

Buying a New Appliance? Don't Look at Price Alone

Price matters, but appliances are often used for years.

Before buying, consider:

✓ Suitable capacity
✓ Energy Rating
✓ Inverter technology where applicable
✓ Room or home size
✓ Number of household members
✓ How frequently you'll use it

For example, choosing a bigger air conditioner isn't automatically better.

The same applies to refrigerators and washing machines.

The better choice is the appliance that matches the way your household actually uses it.

Too Many Models and Don't Know Which One to Choose?

That's normal.

Once you start comparing dozens of models, capacities and specifications online, choosing can become more confusing.
